CUSTOMER ACQUISITION CASE STUDY

How a Brooklyn Dispensary Added 298 Monthly Orders in 90 Days

A Brooklyn dispensary owner wanted to grow his customer base in a competitive market by attracting more local shoppers. Over 90 days, his store’s Google Business Profile search appearances increased 372%, direction requests increased 42%, and monthly orders grew by 298.

THE CHALLENGE

The Newest Dispensary in a Crowded Local Market

A newer Brooklyn dispensary needed a stronger way to compete with five established shops and reach more local shoppers through search.

This dispensary owner opened his storefront in a Brooklyn neighborhood after five established competitors.

He wanted to do more to get his brand in front of local shoppers.

As the newest dispensary in the area, he was entering a market where nearby competitors already had more time to build awareness, reviews, and a presence in local search.

His dispensary wasn’t consistently showing up as an option when people searched for somewhere to shop.

The opportunity was to use the website to enhance it’s local search presence.

This gave have us a better chance to compete with established dispensaries for local shoppers.

THE STRATEGY

Use the Website to Reach More Local Shoppers

This dispensary owner used to think about his website as a place for customers to view the menu and place an order.

He realized the right website structure can also help a dispensary show up more often when nearby shoppers search for places to buy cannabis.

We started focusing on strengthening the connection between the website and the store’s Google Business Profile.

The goal was to help Google better understand which searches the store should appear for.

We focused on reaching shoppers searching for terms like dispensary, dispensary near me, and cannabis store.

As the store got more recognition for these search terms, we saw more people interacting with it’s Business Profile, helping monthly orders increase by over 10% within 90 days.

90 DAY RESULTS

The Dispensary Started Showing Up More in Local Searches

Local search visibility improved across the terms most likely to introduce the dispensary to new shoppers. From June to August, appearances for “dispensary,” “dispensary near me,” and “cannabis store” increased 58%.

The primary goal of local search is to increase how often your dispensary appears when nearby shoppers search for places to buy.

From June to August, visibility increased across three of the most important non-branded searches:

  • “dispensary” increased from 1,170 appearances to 1,654
  • “dispensary near me” increased from 647 to 1,327
  • “cannabis store” increased from 241 to 266

Combined, those three searches increased from 2,058 appearances in June to 3,247 in August (58%).

For a newer dispensary competing against more established shops nearby, that increase in exposure created a larger opportunity to win local customers.

Here’s what helped this store appear in more of those searches.

WHAT LED TO EARLY RESULTS

A Stronger Website Expanded the Store’s Local Search Presence

The website gave the dispensary more ways to show up across Google, strengthening local map rankings for the searches nearby shoppers were using.

The website became an important part of helping the dispensary reach more local shoppers.

As we built the site around local searches customers were using, the store started gaining more exposure across Google search results and Google Maps.

Organic search performance began climbing sharply during June and continued through August.

At the same time, the dispensary gained stronger local rankings for searches like “cannabis,” “cannabis Brooklyn,” “cannabis dispensaries Brooklyn,” “cannabis dispensary Brooklyn,” and “cannabis near me”.

Several of those searches moved into the top positions in local results.

This is where the website and Google Business Profile started working together for this dispensary.

The next question was whether those additional appearances were leading people to take action.

APPEARANCES TO INTERACTIONS

More Visibility Started Attracting Potential Customers

From June to August, Business Profile interactions rose 45%, while website clicks and direction requests each increased 42%.

As the dispensary appeared more often in local search results, more shoppers started choosing the store.

From June to August, Google Business Profile interactions increased from 669 to 972 (45%).

The actions most closely tied to shopping also moved higher:

  • Direction requests increased from 206 to 293 (42%)
  • Website clicks increased from 427 to 606 (42%)

Showing up more often gave the dispensary more opportunities to reach nearby shoppers.

Those shoppers were then taking actions that moved them closer to making a purchase.

Throughout July and August higher visibility in local search was producing more customer activity.

INTERACTIONS TO PURCHASES

Monthly Orders Increased as More Shoppers Found the Store

From June to August, the dispensary added 298 monthly orders, a 10% increase from the starting point.

The increase in local search activity was beginning to show up in store performance.

Monthly orders increased each month throughout the three-month period:

  • June: 2,940 orders
  • July: 3,113 orders
  • August: 3,238 orders

By August, the dispensary was processing 298 more orders per month than it was in June — a 10% increase.

The early pattern across the campaign was consistent.

The store started appearing more often for important dispensary searches.

More people interacted with the Business Profile, clicked through to the website, and requested directions.

At the same time, monthly order volume continued moving higher.

By August, the dispensary was reaching more local shoppers and processing nearly 300 more orders per month than at the June starting point.

BUSINESS IMPACT

Early Results Created Stronger Momentum for the Next Phase

The campaign started in June, and the dispensary started seeing immediate results.

That progress continued through July and August as the store gained more local search exposure and increased monthly orders.

For a newer dispensary competing against shops with more established brands, that shift had an early impact on the store.

It’s now getting in front of more nearby shoppers who may not have known the brand before.

That gives the next phase of the campaign a stronger foundation to build from.

The opportunity now is to turn more of its growing visibility into website visits, direction requests, and store purchases, while giving first-time customers reasons to come back.

As the dispensary continues building recognition in the neighborhood, stronger local visibility can support a more consistent flow of new customers and create more opportunities to grow its repeat customer base over time.
